Heading for a weeks vacation in mid-Sept. Anyone here have any tips on what kind of fishing opportunities I might have there at that time of year? This is my first trip to this part of the country...
I have seen a lot of info lately on the migration away from felt soles due to the transmission of micro-organisms that they permit. I haven't seen any mention of the pros and cons of convertible...
If you got the CD when it was available a while back of all of the FOTW patterns it does contain an index which lists the flies alphabetically.
It would be one of my 2 bamboo rods. One is my Grandfathers rod which I inherited when he passed away. I had it refinished when I got it a few years ago and I fish with it often for trout....
I've used and I have only good things to say about it. I generally don't use it around home because the stockies aren't that big.
I went fishing in a C&R only lake in the Chicago area last evening. Had a pleasant time, caught a few gills and a bass and it was a very nice lake. I was reading the regs and it mentioned that hooks...
I was reminded of a couple of things while rereading a fly fishing book over the weekend.
1) The actual difference between one weight of flyline and the next is measured in hundredths of an ounce....
IMO, breaking the law is breaking the law. Personally I don't care to confront people on the stream, it ruins my day and it isn't my job. I have mentioned to people fishing in an artificials only C&R...
I just ordered the peach colored Cortland 444 DT for mine. I have the same for my 4wt and it is great line. I had heard folks raving about how much better the peach line is than other colors of the...
The first for me is an upcoming trip to FL. I'm going to fish the Orlando area for big bass and then the space coast and Tampa Bay for reds and whatever else is still around in February.
Number 2...
I've done some searching around online and have identified some potential guides for Bass fishing in Orlando and saltwater in either Tampa Bay or Mosquito Lagoon. Anybody out there in FAOLand...
Cabin Fever is scheduled for March 2nd in Cranberry at the same hotel as last year.

Thanks for the info guys. Anyone have any suggestions for some freshwater fishing around the Orlando area? I'll have all day Monday and Tuesday to fish so I could travel a bit if needed.
I'm heading down to a conference in mid February. I'll be starting in Orlando and spending some time in Ft Myers as well. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to go or what to fish for at that...
Mike,
I'm going to try and get there, still not sure I can get away though. Are you coming you coming to Cabin Fever again this year?
Rick
My understanding is that "balancing" a rod and reel has more to with the physical weight of the reel than it's line rating. Since weights vary between makers and models of reels I am more interested...
As has been mentioned above, it depends on how and where you are fishing. Although each state has it's own rules for what constitutes "fly fishing" for use in restricted areas they do vary from state...
I've used the braided loops as described above and they work OK. Lately I have gone to whipped loops as they seem a little easier for me.
I just make a loop in the end of the line and use my fly...
I live in trout country (well on the fringes of it anyways) and love to fish for them. Smallies are also terrific the put on a great fight and a great show. I got out on Saturday to a nice small...
If it had to be one, a black Wooly Bugger. I can lots of different presentations with it.
Dry would be adams
nymph would be PT
For warm water a black popper
I've decided on a compromise between 3 different methods of organization. I have one all purpose box that contains a selection of my favorites. If I know the water well and/or I want to travel light,...
If you haven't already you may want to check out the Fly Tying section here on FAOL. There is an article that tells you about the equipment you need to get started, there are also several vice...
I heartily endorse the 444 peach as well. Although there is nothing wrong with the SA Mastery either.
As for the 555, I bought one of the older version when it first came out. I loved the line for...
Yep, it was 7 no-no's for Nolan Ryan. I had the great fortune to be present at his last one. What a great night that was! It was almost as good as going fishing.
It's always amazing to me to see...
My favorite crappie flies seem to tend towards white, Wooly buggers and clousers both work well. In fact, most colors of WB's work well but they generally seem to prefer white for me.
