STURGEON has anyone caught one on a fly?
I saw a post here with the picture of a trout lashed to the side of a horse and it reminded me of my Idaho history.
In the days before big dams and motorcars, there were pictures taken of giant freshwater sturgeon caught with chickens as bait and pulled out of the Snake River with horses.
That said, is any fly fishing done for sturgeon?
Just curious.
Not all sturgeon are created equal...
Sturgeon where we sampled, caught a dozen or so, one hole in the river, 2 part days of fishing.

22 to 46 lbs caught on 50lbs test.
various ages, conditions.
They eat fish, bivalves, crayfish, etc.
Will still try with an unscented fly, we're there sampling for population estimates anyways... will have all the other gear set up, but it would be nice to try with a flyrod.
