Cheap Landing Net
I wanted to share with you guys, a great net that costs very little and performs a dual function. The photo shows a 10 inch aquarium net which I have re-bent from a rectangle into a round shape. As I recall I paid about $3.00 for it, and the mesh is fine enough that it also serves as a seine for stream drift insects. I believe the exact size was 7 x 10 inches, and it is also available in a 12 inch size if you tend to catch larger fish. Available wherever larger tropical fish are sold ;)

I like the way your mind works, Brant. If the handle is too flexible, maybe it could be stiffened (& lengthened?) with three handle-long dowels bound with duct tape. Might be worth a try. ~pfa

Thanks Paul. I haven't actually tried it yet, but will be using it in the upcoming season. I was using an old aluminum landing net, but I don't like the larger mesh size of traditional nets that tangle in fish and hook. I was looking around for a finer mesh and was shocked by the prices. I remembered my old tropical fish days and was inspired. I think the handle will be OK but time will tell.
