I'm getting an Orvis TLS with the Battenkill large arbor reel for a 9 wt as was suggested in the Saltwater features section...Gonna be fishing primarily for freshwater stripers, bones, stripers, and any inshore fish.
Is the large arbor reel too small to hold enough backing? I'm not sure how much backing it can hold, so anyone knows about this reel, please enlighten me!
If you use Gelspun you will get 225 yards of backing. If you use Dacron you will get 125.
If you don't think that is enough you can cut 20 feet off the back end for more.
If you're getting the LA V,it will hold 200 yards of # 20 plus the #9 flyline. Plenty for just about anything that swims if you set the drag properly for the size fish you're hoping to catch ! 8)
