Mixing Dubbing Wax

Have any of you mixed up your own dubbing wax? I'm thinking about getting some beeswax and violin rosins to try for myself. Does violin rosin on its own work?

I assume I must be in the minority, but I very rarely use dubbing wax. Only use it in a "touch dubbing" situation. I find that you really don't need it otherwise. I rarely, if ever, see the great tiers on videos using it. There are a couple, of course, but I think dubbed bodies without wax are more lifelike.

Does violin rosin on its own work?

Violin rosin is solid, as in crystal. I would think you would have to add something like mineral oil to make the two into a consistency that would make dubbing wax. I played with it a little and decided that it was so inexpensive that buying it is a better idea.

Look up the formula for Keene wax for a start. That uses rosin, lard and bees wax.
As a side note I use wax often and posses about 14 different waxes.

I also do not use wax very often, but I've heard of people having good success with wax from a toilet ring that can be purchased at any big box home improvement store. Just a thought...

Thank for the responses. I was planning on trying the toilet ring mix too. I've read a few articles, but I as wondering about results from users on this site.
Eric-WD, thanks for telling me your experience with rosin. I might try mixing some rosin with beeswax.

on another forum where they were making bullet lubricant from toilet rings, they mention that some are coming in from China that are made of paraffin and not beeswax, buy American. If your looking for a sticky wax straight toilet ring is a good one, I found that I used straight bees wax for most of my tying.

I have bees wax on hand from other hobbies.
I cut it with olive oil and gently heat it.
Play with the ratio until it does what you want.
I've had the same little jar full for many years

I don't mess wit wax anymore. If I need to use some I get Bill Bailey's wax from FeathersMC. I know Bill and he makes his wax to old forgotten formulas he has dug up over time. They work great'
