    Hi Lastchance:

The full collared hackle that wraps all the way around the fly is hen cape. If I was going to tye in a beard instead then I go with one of two materials, Schlappen is one and the other is Hen Saddle. I prefer Hen Saddle because I like the appearance is always easy to find and available and is just a tad larger to work with which in this case makes it easier.. I hope this answered your questions. Any other questions please ask and I will be glad to answer or provide and help that you may need.

    Sincerely
    Andy Brasko

I've never used any more than one coat of CP. I think it's only white glue thinned way down (but I could be wrong!!), so I usually thin it down a bit more and use one coat. Darn! Wish I'd thought to "glue" down the metallic trim! Probably would have used it more!! LOL!! Anxious to see your finished rod!

    Me again!

I don't have any pictures of rods I've finished with the Fishhawk threads. Any I would have done have gone to their respective owners. As I recall, the colors were true, and the material handled really well. Have you tried a trial run on a piece of dowel? Or if you've not started building yet ... you can try a small section under where the reel seat or cork grip will be seated, see what it looks like, then take it off (while the epoxy is still wet even!) You just want to know what the color will look like on the rod you're building.

Wish I was a better building buddy for you!

    Hugs,
    Betty

How funny!! I just finished posting to your thread in the rod building forum! I thought solid dark burgundy or simple, smart black would look great! Anxious to see pictures of the rod when you finish it! It's going to be beautiful!
    Hugs,
    Betty

I would go with American Tackle single foot guides. 12, 4, 3, 2,2,2,2,2,2

3s would be more appropriate for 6w+ rods. What you suggested would be great for a 7 or 8w, a little large for a 3/4.
  9. Hey Grubb. We got spared in my area of Cambria County overnight. Winds are supposed to hit 50 MPH and the temps are headed down to single digits tonight so we'll see what happens. The ride to work was uneventful today. All the schools and colleges in the area cancelled classes today.
