Big Horn Trout Shop

"First class angling on one of America's premier trout streams."

This could be you! Take two guides - Steve Hilbers and Hale Harris, who've been around long enough to know what the fly fisherman wants and needs, put them in a great location, Montana's Big Horn River, (which just happens to be the home of fine wild trout) and stand back when they open a fly shop with great products, outstanding guide service, and a lodge.

The Shop

The Big Horn Trout Shop specializes in float trips down the famous Bighorn River. Float fishing is the preferred way to fish the Bighorn as access to the river is limited. You will be fishing from quiet fiberglass McKenzie drift boats which provide a stable platform for casting. Your guide will position the boat within easy casting distance of the finest holding water. As you fish your way down river you will stop frequently at the more productive holes and runs. Midday you'll pull over to the bank and enjoy a relaxing streamside lunch; then continue fishing downstream on one of the very finest trophy rivers in North America.

Quality equipment

The full-service fly shop can outfit you completely with high-quality equipment from companies like Sage, R.L. Winston, Patagonia and Simms, just to name a few. Their fly selection is the finest in the area and contains many specialized patterns. The Big Horn Trout Shop also offers rental rods, reels and waders for those who want to give fly fishing a try without making a large investment.

Spacious with Private bath A little added benefit in dealing with the Big Horn Trout Shop is the accommodations. At the end of your fishing, your guide can return you to your spacious and comfortable lodge room, with private bath, TV and air conditioning. Rooms include continental breakfast. An evening meal is served daily at additional cost. Comfort and convenience!

Great fall fishing on the Big Horn The Bighorn River is considered by many to be the finest trout steam in the continental United States and one of the most productive brown trout fisheries in the world.
Midge, mayfly and caddis hatches can be intense The River's ecosystem has all the necessary ingredients to support an astounding number of brown and rainbow trout. Because it is a tail-water fishery, the water temperature remains cool in the summer and ice free in the winter, allowing the trout an extended growing season. When other Montana rivers are high and muddy from spring runoff, the Bighorn remains clear and fishable. There is little scouring by spring runoff and this encourages weed growth and abundant aquatic life.

Easy Access If you are considering a trip to Montana, go where the fishing is not only great - but dependable. The Big Horn Trout Shop will put you in the right place, with just the right guide. Easy to access, your trip will be memorable. Float down the Bighorn River's crystal clear waters and cast to wild trout. The fly fishing adventure of a lifetime awaits you.
