Several of the group wanted to give steelhead fishing a try.
Dick Lane (Fishing injun) took a group downstream on the Clearwater
near Lewistown, Idaho and showed them where, when and how.
After the scouting mission, spent the rest of that day and
part of the next day fishing for steelhead. Three were
caught - a marvel since some people fish for them for years
before catching even one. Please do a 'mouse-over' for names
on these.
The Locksa River is a beautiful piece of water. Around every
bend is another Norman Rockwell painting. Near the resort the
rocks are smaller and easier wading. A wading staff was certainly
recommended anywhere however. The further upstream we went the
larger the rocks and boulders. Long flat slicks, riffle water,
little waterfalls, and very deep drop offs and pools give the
fish wonderful holding water.
Here's JC and the LadyFisher turning over rocks on the Lochsa near
the resort. Lots of caddis, in several sizes. Some for now, some
for later!
A final photo of the Lochsa, the rock is the size of a house!
There was about 12 miles of the Selway River also adjacent to camp as
well, again, nice rainbows, and cutthroat. Excellent fishing
was reported by all who fished it.
More to come on the tying and demonstrations, stay tuned.
