20 in. Westslope Cutthroat

This Western Fish-In 2002 at The Three Rivers Resport at the concluence of the Clearwater, Selway and Locksa Rivers in the Bitterroot/Selway National Forests. The big attraction was lots of good water, and best of all, Fish! The star of the affair is shown above, caught by Grizz (Jeff Fields) one of many Westslope Cutthroats brought to hand. The caddis below is the reason the fish were co-operative.

Arriving at Lowell, the resort is right across the bridge.

no name on the back, sorry

Some of the group arrived on Sunday, and left early. JimC, Jim Cramer from California made it early, as did Fishin Injun, (Dick Lane) who organized the Fish-In, Denny Conrad, and RW (Royal Wulff) who wins the prize for coming the farthest for the event. RW, actually Gerald Wulff, took a bus from his home in Maine to Spokane Washington.

GrayGhost (Ray Bradley) and Denny One of the joys of a Fish-In is matching names with faces. Folks who have met via the Chat Room and names which have been seen on the Bulletin Board, have the opportunity to make friends.

A variety of things happened each day. The die-hard anglers fished every day. Others tied flies, shared materials and methods, and got some 'down-time.'

Here's RW (Gerald Wulff), Fishin Injun (Dick Lane) and Denny Conrad at their camp. The tee-pee is half a parachute, a survival shelter. The fellows had a view of everything going on in camp. While unable to fish himself because of recent back surgery, Dick made himself available to help everyone onto the best places to fish.

JC and the LadyFisher walking to the confluence of the river to pester some trout. We did get to see some of the returning salmon running up the Selway riffles near the resort. It is illegal to fish for them at this juncture, but it was a joy to see them. Yes, there were catchable fish without having to drive anywhere. The Locksa River flows right next to the resort, in front of the cabins.

Here is one of the cabins, Grizz, Les Young and Slic shared this one. Cabins were equiped with cooking facilities, which came in handy since Grizz organized an imprompto steak cookout. It quickly became a group potluck, with folks contributing what they could.
