Well, we've done it. A 'Bone-Fish-In.' As most of you know,
we are kind of hung up on these silly things and now we have
found a place for those of you who want to join us to do so.
There are a lot of places to find and fish for bonefish, some
are better than others for a myriad of reasons. Some regions
offer many fish but they tend to run small. Other places have
rather large ones, but very few of them. Lodges vary from posh
to crummy. Some places seem like a good deal price-wise, until
you find that if the wind blows, you sit on the beach, period.

A company which owns three major lodges in the Bahamas has
purchased what was once a government establishment (Emerald Palms)
on South Andros Island and are re-constructing it. New darn
near everything, including twenty new one and two bedroom
cottages to compliment the many unit motel already there.

The new fresh-water pool and heated Jacuzzi are on the beach,
right in front of the main dining room and patio. This is
not a low-end place. There is a bar and a massage/sauna
located next to the pool for pampered relaxing. Non-fishing
spouses are welcome and will enjoy the amenities. We spent
a week there in February, took some pictures, caught some fish,
relaxed and fell in love with it. (See the LadyFisher's article
on that HERE.)
We have been to other places in the Bahamas and this is where
we have decided to locate our 'Annual Bone-Fish-In.' The flats
are the biggest, flattest, least fished, have the most fish,
(from small to big) excellent food and great accommodations.
We are working with them and the Bahamian Tourism Department
to help make South Andros the Bonefish Capitol of the World.
We will also post a "Going List" at that time.
This is to tip you off so you can start now to make plans
for November 6-12, 2003. Our 'Bone-Fish-In' will
be the Inaugural Grand Opening of the
Emerald Palms of South Andros. We are both honored
and excited at this prospect. We are working closely with
them on many matters, including guides, boats, flies, rates
and things that bonefishers want to have and will expect
to find. We have arranged a discount for FAOL folks for
the event. As usual, for all 'Fish-In' events, you will
be expected to make your own reservations and arrangements,
but, we will do all we can to be of assistance.
We will, of course, try to help anyone with their casting
while we are there, but, really, you should start soon
practicing the double-haul with an eight-weight rod. If
you have not fly-fished very much this may not be the thing
for you at this time, but, there is time for you to learn
if you start soon. More later. ~ JC and LF
