Orvis Rod Replacement/Repair?

I stepped on and broke my Orvis stick in Jackson Wyo a few years ago. Took it to the Orvis company store right there in Jackson assuming I’d be walking out with a new rod in about a minute. NOT SO. Took about 4 weeks . I was a bit dissapointed at the time but have since gotten over it.
At the time, I could have used a new rod and since the guarantee was a “no questions asked” variety, just WHY could not a COIMPANY store make good on it. I would understand if this was an authorized dealer but this was the “horse’s mouth”. Well, like I mentioned earlier, I got over it and still buy Orvis on occasion.
But if they keep THAT up, they’ll be out of business in about 200 years for sure.

I bought two heavy tubes. A little dremel tool work and I fit them together with a large amount of tape, cut off excess length. Made for a very solid joint. Stuffed a little newspaper in the bottom, slid the rod tube in, a little more crumpled newspaper on top, taped the plastic cap on and dropped it at FedEx this morning. They say it will be there in 4 days.

The rod arrived at Orvis today according to FedEx.

Orvis just called. They cannot repair the rod, which I expected considering it was 8 years old. They offered me a choice of the various TLS Matrix 6 wts. I chose the 9’ 4-piece tip-flex saltwater model. The one I broke was a saltwater 2 piece mid-flex. The lady that helped me was very nice, she wanted to make sure I understood that the one I broke was mid-flex, and the one I chose was tip-flex. I told her I understood, as I have 2 other Orvis tip-flex rods and another mid-flex so I was aware of the difference.

She placed the order and it would shop Monday. I may have it by next weekend to continue the white bass hunt!

Waynep;
How much extra did it cost ?? Mine was given to me by my Dad. No idea what HE paid for it. He is gone now. I know they no longer make the Trident TL, I sent mine today.
Waiting for reply from Orvis

Did you get a tracking no.? Then you can see when they get it.

There was no cost to me . . . other than what I spent to ship it to them.

They say $30 , somehow I expect more. Which is OK with me. Older rod. Thing is, I wish they could repair. I understand that is highly unlikely. CRAP This is bothering me. Thanks for letting me vent.

The $30 fee is for rods made after Jan 1 2003. It’s stated on the web rod repair request form. The rod I broke was made before that, so no fee for me.

A few years ago I broke the tip top on an Orivs kit rod I had put together from one of their blanks when they sold them like that about 30 years ago. I happened to have been in Vermont and I dropped the rod off at their main store in Manchester.

I expected to pay for the repair. NO CHARGE AT ALL. Plus they mailed the fixed rod to my home within a week (it almost beat me home). They definately lost money on that transaction but they gained a very loyal customer. I’m willing to pay more for service and quality like that.

NO KIDDING?!!! On a kit? Sweet!

The rod came a few minutes ago. I have already cast it! I am happy, Orvis did good!

WOHOO! I love happy endings

A whole week plus a few days in shipping without a flyrod ! Orvis customer service really is great isn’t it !
