Fishing the Henry's Fork

Back on the Henry’s Fork this AM

Good morning of fishing just above The Ranch in Last Chance.

A number of good fishers on the other side of the river.

Visitors from the sky;

Byron;

I am sure enjoying YOUR vacation !!! Thanks for all the posts. Wish I was there lol lol

Thanks MSD!

A number of pretty rainbows this morning. Not large, but very pretty. Photo doesn’t do the fish justice.

My son with a Buff, looks like a bandit on the river

Caught some nice rainbows on the Henry’s Fork in the morning, and went to the Madison in the evening above Lyon’s Bridge.

We caught some nice Browns on size 16 X-Caddis flies.

There were quite a few Stones on and around the river, but they would float unharmed down the river. The trout were not taking them.
The Madison is exceptionally low right now.

Celebrated the morning of the 4th on the Madison.

A long-tailed spinner

My son’s last full day with me here. He surprised me with a float trip on the Madison. Went through rain and hail today.

Folks waiting their turn at the put in on the Madison

There are good public access points on the Madison, but plenty of private property along the river. Including “The Smiling Moose” Ranch…

Another visit to Parks Fly Shop in Gardiner, MT.

Walt was in because of heavy rain the other day and the impact on local rivers.
Tying one of his hot pink, folded wing Caddis.

Took a while to drive through the Park up from West Yellowstone to the North Entrance as the bison really slowed things down.

Swarming Caddis along the bank.

That last pic of the caddis is way cool…

Last morning to fish. Returned to the Madison at the West Fork.
Caught a couple nice browns on a size 16 X-Caddis

On the way back from the Madison, I stopped at Blue Ribbon Flies in West, and watched Craig Matthews tying Iris X-Caddis flies for Fall

Also stopped at Slide Inn. Kelly showed me a photo of HALF of the 41 inch Brown someone caught a week or so again.

And I thought my son’s brown in Patagonia was large…

Stopped at Quake Lake overlook. Hope this is legible.

That turnaround look. Bulls check out red/orange in a bullfight. I know the dude doesn’t want to get run over by a car, but orange…with bulls…?

Bulls are color blind. I assume the same is true of bison.

They think a bear or eagle halved the brown? Or the harvester?

Actually, i think Kelly did. He is going to mount it. Probably was too long to manage in his freezer.

Gotcha. When I first glanced I thought it was a wild story, not just a big fish story. Thanks!
