Fly Angler’s Online is brought to you by sponsors that pay a fee to have their products displayed on our web pages. For the next few weeks we will be featuring each of our sponsors in a special article. These folks make FAOL a reality each week and we want our readers to be aware of them and to utilize their services when you are looking for new products or the services that they offer for sale.

In the inside cover of the catalogue from St. Croix you find the following quote:

“Fishing – It’s a lot healthier than not fishing*”

“In the ongoing accumulation of arguments to make it easier for you to spend yet another weekend on the water you can now add – health. Why, fishing is like high-fiber, low-salt, colon-cleansing yoga session in the great outdoors. Maybe it’s all those positive ions down by the water. Or the spiritual invigoration that comes with a full live well. Or the aroma of fresh fish on your hands. Whatever it is, we’ll take it. “

*This claim has not been verified by the USFDA. Not like that would make any difference.

These are our kind of folks!

St. Croix was co-founded by Bob and Bill Johnson in 1948. They began their business by constructing and selling hand-made landing nets. These nets proved too costly for most sportsmen. Deciding to pursue a different tact they took some cane fishing poles, cut them into three shorter lengths and fitted them with brass ferrules. A local hardware merchant immediately ordered 500 rods, and the St. Croix Rod Company was born. [Taken from the St. Croix official website]

St. Croix has been a supporting sponsor of FAOL for five years. St. Croix doesn’t just sell fly rods but rods for all types of fishing for everything from fresh to salt water and even rods for ice fishing. They have a complete selection of blanks for anyone that would like to build their own rods from scratch. They also sell a limited selection of clothing.

As I looked over their offerings I noticed a new item that might be of interest to some of our readers – the Imperial Switch Rod. They offer 4 rods, each 11 feet long, 4 piece, that will cast lines from 5 through 8 weights. The best part is the price – from $240.00 to $250.00 depending upon the model. They come with a case and a limited life time warranty.

St. Croix offers a variety of fly rods ranging in price from One Hundred dollars up to Four Hundred Twenty dollars for fresh water rods, Four Hundred Fifty dollars up to Five Hundred Twenty dollars for salt water rods, and Four Hundred Eighty dollars up to Five Hundred Forty dollars for Spey rods.

For beginners they offer complete outfits priced from Two Hundred dollars up to Two Hundred Ten dollars. Each outfit contains a St. Croix Rio Santo Fly Rod, St. Croix die cast aluminum fly reel with adjustable disc drag. The reel is pre-loaded with 20 lb. backing, St. Croix weight-forward floating fly line and tapered leader. They come in a protective rod and reel case with a handle and divided polypropylene liner. They offer a 4 weight, two 5 weights, one 6 weight and one 8 weight. All the rods are four piece and range in length from 8 to 9 feet.

We are proud to have St. Croix as a sponsor at FAOL and we encourage our readers to check out their product line.
