When it was spring in Wisconsin, and the roosting crows screamed every morning from the birch grove across the lake, alarmed at the first predatory light,
I used to push out from shore
When it was spring in Wisconsin, and morning,
I had not sufficiently fathomed
a deepening beneath me, a greater overhead.
