LADIES!
I just got back from a run on the Ste-Marguerite River. Over 5 days, I met up with 13 people and guided 25 angler days with the help of another Guide, but here's the kicker: Of the 13 people we guided, there were only 2 fellows, the rest were women!
It seems that there are more and more women getting into fly fishing. This is wonderful. Gone are many of the “Good old boys” mentalities and “a Private man's fishing clubs”. Today, gear as well as packages is being tailored to women.
A quick run around the internet and we can find outfitters and guides who offer packages specifically suited to the ladies. We only have to look at some of the sponsors here at FAOL and we find gear suited to women. From coast to coast, guide services have packages for women too.
In reality, there is no difference guiding a Lady or Ladies over a group of guys. Well, the shore lunch is a bit less on the meat and potatoes side and more on the salmon steaks, grilled chicken, toasted bagels and fruit salad. (Women seem to burn energy more quickly so I prefer to offer meals a bit less “heavy” and then have them eat more often during the day).
With beginners, a quick brief about the techniques we'll be teaching:
Then we're off for some casting basics:
As with any hot and sunny day on a salmon river, after lunch, a rest was in
order:
So Ladies, once your significant other is preparing for a day on the water, why not get prepared and head out too. For beginners, you can book a day with a guide or a local club. And Fellas, why not take some time out and show your Gal or Mom a day on the river. Who knows, you might just find a wonderful excuse to have some real quality time together.
