The Rod — The Makers Rod '00 will be a 7 foot 6
inch, 4 weight, 3 piece, 2 tipped rod. What makes the rod special is that it will be
made by the best rodmakers from across the United States. (For the Makers Rod
'98 each of the 28 makers signed their particular strip!) The special cause will be stream restoration on the AuSable and Manistee rivers of Michigan. For the rodmakers it is a chance to show their love for the craft and their concern for our resources. For some lucky individual it is a chance to own perhaps the most unique bamboo fly rod ever made! Preliminary plans have been announced for a second Makers Rod raffle, with the winning ticket to be drawn at the "Y2K" RODMAKERS Gathering and Trout Bum Bar-B-Q, on Saturday, June 24, 2000. The Makers Rod 2000 raffle tickets will feature a signed & numbered image by noted Michigan artist Dave Ruimveld. Though the list of participating rod makers has not been finalized, the six living authors of books about bamboo fly rod making are confirmed to participate in the project, including: George Barnes, Hoagy B. Carmichael, Wayne Cattanach, Ray Gould, Jack Howell, and George Maurer.
Besides the rod, the raffle package will include:
To add further uniqueness to the raffle each of the 750 tickets available will be a limited edition print, (the one shown above) donated by David Ruimvelt. David is a well known Michigan artist and a strong supporter of conservation projects. The Tickets — Tickets for the Makers Rod '00 are $50 with 750 available. The drawing will take place at The Trout Bum BBQ held this summer - June 24, 2000 at The Fly Factory - 200 Ingham - Grayling, MI. You do not need to be present to win. There are also two framing options offered this year (at an additional cost of $100 for per ticket print) which is for the framed print, with a real fly shown in the print mounted in the ticket section. The raffle ticket will be sent too, of course. If you would like the original print from 1998, a few are available at $40. The raffle is licensed by the State of Michigan #52150.
