    Default Excellent naturals resource (and quiz)

    Take a look at this site:
    [url=http://www.rayswords.com/bugs/bugs.htm:3a0da]http://www.rayswords.com/bugs/bugs.htm[/url:3a0da]

    It has a large number of good photos of naturals, and an identification quiz. Click on your choice under the pic in the main frame and it'll tell you if you're correct.

    I haven't gone through all of them yet, but I did the first 30 and missed 3 IDs.

    Here's a sample:

    Excellent. I scored ok, but I am constantly looking at reference books to help my color/profile selections when tying. I got about 75% I think. This is a great little reference.

    I missed the oddballs that I would never tie.

    I guessed right on a couple of the weird ones, which helped me when different versions showed up later.

    You may have noticed that this wasn't designed as a fishing resource. It's just a neat feature of a stream conservation program.

    Its great though. Sometimes (at least I do) we tend to concentrate on the fly, rather than what we are actually imitating. I don't go for realistic tying, but I think profile, size and color are important.

    These are some of the better photos I have seen.

    The quiz is very nicely done. If one's score on the quiz is not as good as desired, the pdf file contains useful drawings of the various stream macro-invertebrates. Nice posting.
