Mick,

I was given a supply of these, taken from the ridge and collar of hunted 'Javelina' (collared peccary) and I've spent some time playing with them. The ones I have are a mottled black and white. They can be used wherever you want that mottled black/white color. They also seem to be quite bouyant.

I've used them for body material on large dry flies, atennae on crawfish imitations, tails on various bugs, knotted legs, etc..

So far, they look good and hold up well. I've found that they can be easily colored with markers. If you want to make a wrapped body (or tie a knot in it) with one you need to soak it first (similar to using a quill body), and apply some lacquer to it after it dries.

Nice and versatile natural material.

Good Luck!

Buddy
