What I do
I tie the foam in by cutting a point into the foam strip which I reef on so its completely crushed before folding the foam over the tie in point. Then I get real generous with the sally hansons on the bottom of the thread covered hook shank when the fly is done. Worst case is that I have to roll the fly back on top after a few catches.
