HOW TO COCKTAIL: THE LAST WORD

The Last Word is made of gin, Green Charteuse, Maraschino liqueur, and lime. The sweet and sour cocktail is storied to have been the last cocktail created at the Detroit Athletic Club before Prohibition. Author Ted Saucier revived the Last Word in the 1950s and then Murray Stenson popularized it in 2004 at the Zig Zag Cafe in Seattle. Now, the complex, herbal Last Word is known to win any argument. Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and double-strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
