Munguler (Mixed Ungulate Emerger)

Looking to expand the cream/dark brown palette that moose mane provides. Lacking the patience to dye said moose mane (or a working microwave to dye anything at the moment) I started poking around my stuff and found the box of bucktails in all kinds of colors. With the narrow diameter of the bucktail, I wouldn't want to tie anything bigger than a #12, but for small stuff, it works okay.

wing/wing pad - deer hair

That sure is a striking color combination. Not sure when you would fish it, but it sure does stand out.

Have you tried Superhair/Ultrahair tied Jujubee Midge style? Would fit this motif well, especially in smaller sizes.

I have tied JuJubee-style flies with Ultrahair and they are effective. I was just looking for something a bit more opaque, having been playing around with the moose mane flies so that’s why I gave the bucktail a try. The color shown here was chosen because the chartreuse tail was on top and I was looking more at the utility of the material (although I bet I could find some stupid cutts that would hit it); may play around with some other combinations.
