Been using the MeasureNet for years and the newer rubberized bag is fish friendly. I got my first one because I couldn't afford a Brodin or other "good" net but now I have a hard time seeing why I would need to spend more and don't see any benefit of the more expensive nets other than fashion and Bent wood is real Pretty.

I use my fly rod as my quickie measuring stick. From the base of the reel seat to the end of he cork handle on most of my rods measures 11' - With the heavier wt rods with the fighting butt 12". Should I ever get into anything larger/longer I'll see where it's nose ends up further up-rod and then I'll measure the rod later in camp. Of course, if the fish is longer then then the reel seat to the end of the cork handle, I'm subject to add a couple of inches later on when I'm telling the story.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will probably go with the use the rod measure idea. I figure that there can't be that much deviation between rods, I will check, and then I have some way of a quick estimate. I caught a smallie in Maine last week that I think was about 14 - 15". This way I can be a little more accurate!
    Thanks,

Measure nets. And you can buy replacement bags that just zip onto your old Frame

Accounting for my "less expensive" stuff, I print, in small font, the numbers 12.14,16, 18 and 20 , cut them out and nail polish them right to the rod blank. Needless to say, NOT an idea suitable for your high end rods but that is not a problem for me.

If you're using your rod, you can measure the rod at home and apply a "dot" of nail polish to the rod butt at a convenient length(s) such as 20".

It would depend on whom else was close by when the fish was brought to hand. If no one else was close, you can just have a field day with your numbers!
