    Default Rainbow dubbing

    Tying up some Rainbow Warriors

Have 2 packets of dubbing, Orvis and Wapsi. The Orvis stuff is absolute crap; even after heavily waxing the thread, I couldn't get it to dub on the thread or hook properly (maybe in a dubbing loop but not worth the effort). The Wapsi, seen in the pic above, worked great, with no waxing needed. Not sure what kind of binder fur Orvis used but it sure didn't compare to the Wapsi, which I think used antron; the amount of shredded mylar seemed to be the same in both products.

    Regards,
    Scott

    ScottP,

There is a big difference between the two. I believe that Orvis repackages the Hareline Rainbow dubbing:

The Rainbow Sow Scud Dubbing from Wapsi:

...is what Lance Egan used in his original Rainbow Warrior recipe...

    PT,

Thanks for the info. Maybe the Hareline is meant for larger flies/steelhead/salmon/saltwater?
