My 2 cents....practice. When you can. Frequently. I have a 5 wt Cabelas Three Forks rod strung up in the garage at all times. If the wife and I are going out, I will go to the yard and practice while she is putting on the finishing touches( another subject in itself, not the proper time or place to go there). If it is only 5 minutes that's OK. If you pick up the rod and things are not going well, put it down. Don't practice when you are fishing, practice when you are practicing. These are 2 entirely different activities. As we speak I am at my cottage on Lake Erie. I plan on practicing tonight after dinner. I keep a rod here for that purpose also. There you go, my 2 cents..a bit long winded, but worth what you paid for it.....
One more thing. Don't practice to see if you can cast a country mile, cast to see if you can hit a target in the range you will be fishing. Use a tree as a target. Or a block in a sidewalk, you st the idea. Now go have some fun!
