Default Nice to Get the Boots Wet Again TR

Scored a prime spot at the campground; pretty quiet (place was full 24 hrs later)

tried down first; not much happening so upstream it was

got a few on pinks & zebras but, all-in-all, things were pretty quiet; on the way back to the truck found a few sipping midges and managed one on a dry

    different kind of sippers

    A.K.A. raptor treats

baetis spinners in the evening and pretty good hatches during the day but only found a few scattered fish interested in them on top; lots of bugs on the water, and me

lots of these around, too; gonna be a big year for honkers

you could tie some killer flies with these, if they were legal

    nice beaver

being the nation's symbol carries no weight on a sandbar; he swiped a fish from the gulls and got mobbed (didn't make it halfway back to the cliffs before he had to give it up)

    a little weather that evening

    made for a nice sunset

took a peek at my neighbor's (guide out of Missoula up for a week of tailwater stuff) selection

last morning; frogwater = whitefish hole

found the sippers up around the bend

Buzzball was much easier to pick out of the midge orgy than a single

took a hike up to see how things were going at the bathtub; pretty quiet, time to bug out so I can hit Marias Pass and the south side of GNP in daylight (no desire to put the deer catcher to use)

    Regards,
    Scott

That all looks very inviting, Scott.

I am in Pennsylvania now but leaving for Montana in two weeks. I hope there is still water left in those rivers for this summer.

    John,

On the plus side, as long as the Lamar isn't throwing too many mud plugs, the salmonfly hatch in Paradise could have some decent dry fly action.

Yes, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get on the river by the middle of June, while the Salmonflies normally move upriver past where we are around the end of June.
