A great service to readers of the older books such as Trout Flies would be a webpage with good digital images of flies actually tied by those authors. What did Gary's beetle pattern actually look like as he tied it? From his methods of observation, what subtle effects did he capture in the patterns he developed and the flies he tied from them? It's tough to tell even from the color plates. As time passes, fewer and fewer of the flies the authors themselves tied will be around for digitally photographing.
