52 weeks is an approximation just like 365 days is an approximation.
January 1, 2014 is a Wednesday and December 31, 2014 is a Wednesday. If there were exactly 52 weeks in a year December 31, 2014 would be a Tuesday. So there are 52 weeks and 1.25 days in a year so every 4 years we get a Feb 29th.
BTW, May 2015 will have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays. Then the next one is January, 2016. I hope I don't die between August this year and May, 2014. Last one was March, 2013. It's not that rare.
