Wes there is no sculpting involved in anyway . The claws are porcupine quills tied to monofilement , the eyes ,antenae ,and legs are monofilement tied to the hook. the underbody is chenile. The outer body is homemade bug skin.

Excellent description of sculpting. yours approach is much better, in a different medium, and more mechanical in nature than shaping plastic goo. those other wacks are more like carvers which is craft rather than art.

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.
