Sadly, I agree with your assessment, it's probably not worth the time, effort and money; espeially since the new tip will not really match the butt section. I have a Gatti rod that simply broke and the hassle of getting a tip that even fit the rod was more than I bargined for so I know what you'd be going through. That is the one downside of custom built rods. You should be able to salvage the guides easily enough, but the reel seat can be a bit of a challenge depending on which adhesive he used to glue it in place. If ou look on the bright side, you now have a "legitment" excuse to buy a new replacement rod.
