No question it's a longear. They average smaller than a bluegill or pumpkinseed with an average length of about 4 to 6 inches. They can be real scrappers on a 1 weight, which is what I do all of my pan fishing with the last several years. Sunfish frequently crossbreed, but you can be pretty certain it's a longear if it has that long ear flap with no red or orange in it. The IGFA World Record is 1lb. 12 oz. caught in New Mexico in 1985....I think.
