To me...brook trout are perhaps THE most beautiful freshwater fish. Nice pics!

Those tiger marks are typical of brook trout in my area. The par marks are too. I don't think these were young brookies, not at those sizes. I would say they were all breeding age.
Thanks for the comments guys!
I hate you now I was in VA on the West side this summer for 8 days and had no chance whatsoever to look for those.
Gigante-
When you come back to VA give me a holler.
Those fish would be monsters in the brook across the way from my house
The largest I ever caught there was no more than 9 inches and most are under 6

Terry, both the fish and the pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Get this...back home, Brook Trout are called "Mud Trout"! And they look like these fine examples of Salvelinus fontinalis all year round. Amazing how someone could give these fish such un assuming and un-flattering names.
Parr markings indicate juvenile fish, particularly salmonids, although I've been told some adult fish can carry parr markings on into their adult lives.
Parr markings are the "thumb print" looking marks down the sides of the juvenile fish.
You can easily see them on this small wild rainbow trout:
