very sunny day. The Cannon camera doesn't like sun much either.

If I remember correctly, you have the same Canon G10 that I have.
If you are having sun problems, maybe you should play with the exposure compensation dial a bit more ???

You just have to play with the Exposure Compensation dial for different exposure compensation effects.
The adjusted image will show in your LCD monitor and what you see is what you will get.
The instructions for exposure compensation are on page 137 of your camera user guide.
