Thread: 3 wt for Spring Creeks

Lots of nice spring creek rods out there: Winston WT 8'3 weight, 8' 4 weight Tom Morgan Favorite, LT 8'3" 4 weight. The little Sage SLT 7'6" 3 weight is also a nice rod. And you'd be missing out if you didn't check out the T&T Light Presentation Series.

It all depends on your budget and preferences.

    Good Luck!

Wow...there must be 20 rod suggestions here.
Do you have a fly shop nearby that will let you try a few out to see if you like the way they cast?

I tested the TFO Lefty Kreh Finesse Series 7'9" 3wt (4pc) at the FF Retailer's Show in Denver. It was an impressive rod -- light, sensitive, and powerful. Price is listed at $179.95.

I like the Sage FLi 490-4 myself. I'm not big into using rods less than 9 feet. I like to have an advantage in line control around those cress beds and other debris common to spring creeks.

I have to throw in with a suggestion for bamboo. I have a Bellinger 3/4wt, 7' that is pure joy to fish with. Makes me feel good just to be casting it.

I can tell you first hand that they love their work at Bellinger.

Edit: Oops! I didn't see your budget post...nevermind.

You might want to give the new St Croix Avids a look. From all of the reviews I have read they sound like great rods. Especially if you like the med to med - fast action.

Re: the Redington RS3. I have been fishing the 8' 3wgt RS2 Redington for about 5 years now. For me it works very well on smaller waters. I think there is an 8' 4 pc from the current RS3 series for around $200. I also have the TFO Pro 8 1/2' 3 wgt that I bought this summer [late] for lake fishing and thus far it seems to be a winner also. I haven't used it on a stream yet but as long as you have room to swing it I think it'll do fine.

Thanks BH. I was beginning to think I was alone with my thoughts on Superfines. I'll have to try the Tippet out sometime.

    I have a JP Ross Beaver Meadow 6' 3wt that I love. [url=http://www.jprossflyrods.com/:7b393]http://www.jprossflyrods.com/[/url:7b393]
I quickly found that my 7'6" was too long for some areas of Fur Brook.
