Ballast?!?! Cary has tried to convince me that my waders need ballast. He offered to put rocks in my waders so I wouldn't float away if I got into deep water. Hummm .... He may have something there!

Back on topic, a concept sure to stun the NBOF...
When I was a college student, I used to put a can or two of ravioli up under the leading edge of the windshield of my land-barge (4-door Impala), which inevitably faced South. We would fish either up or downstream in the morning then return to the barge for lunch. The ravioli or whatever else Mr. Boyardee canned for me, would be a nice, warm lunch (maybe 140 - 160 F). That was back in the day... Now I just eat a couple of granola bars and try to get my fly outta its tree.

I am wondering if a lightweight alternative to the brick might be one of the reusable hand warmers or a couple of the disposable boot warmers that the hunters use to stay warm might work as well. I usually take a small lunch box size insulated cooler with me anyway to hold misc food items in the car along with a thermos of spiced cider. In winter weather taking a break to hike back to my vehicle might be a welcome warm up time but I usually like easy to transport stuff so I don't lose fishing time.
