I didn't have time to read all of the replies to this post so please pardon me if I am being redundant to what has already been said.

Here are a few thoughts. Most head injuries while wading occur in a matter of INCHES of water NOT FEET.

Second, many of us wear glasses or contacts. Make sure to keep a spare handy incase your others get broken or worse yet knocked off and heading downstream in the currents.

Third, carry a cheap whistle and one or two of those illuminating sticks incase you need to make another person aware of your position. The whistle might help in the daylight but the little light sticks might help also help after dark.
