All of them tell you to vary the position of the elbow depending on the length and type of cast you are attempting. They advocate the use of the whole arm and even throw in some body movement as long as you stick to some basic principals. Its all physics.
Joan's video starts off early on by telling you not to restrict yourself to the book under the arm method. She says that as soon as she realized that she should get rid of the book, she started to become a good caster. lefty says that casting by the clock method is silly, clocks are for telling time not for casting a line.
