As others have stated fishing is slow to none around KC this time of year.
KK Flyfishers is at 87th (Santa Fe Trail Dr.)and Marty. Probably the best stocked fly shop in town.
Arthur Bryants has 3 locations one is in AmeriStar casino, another is close to Cabelas and the oldest is at 18th and Brooklyn. I like the Brooklyn location best because they still smoke the meat in the same pit Arthur did....

Cabela's is always an adventure...good fly shop there as well.

cabelas and kk flyfishers are both about a 20 min. drive from downtown. arthur bryant's sauce is an acquired taste imho (think of vinegar and sand mixed together), but they undoubtedly give the largest portions. i much prefer jack stack which is about six blocks from your hotel.

I am 66 years old. I was going to Bryants with my parents when I was short enough to walk under the tables. It was Charlie Bryants then (Arthur's brother). They were on 18th Street, just down the street from the Brooklyn location. There were 20-30 gal jars of sauce in the window. The aroma would make your mouth water. I guess the sauce is what I've always thought BBQ sauce was..and I acquired the taste. If I'm away from it for a while I think about taking it intravenous

Default Too cold to fish - you might as well eat

Ask 10 people from Kansas City for our favorite BBQ places, and we'll give you 12 different answers. But we'll all agree that you won't be fishing tomorrow.

Hit Arthur Bryant's for lunch. Then drive south to KK Flyfisher and check out the goodies. Maybe meet with some of the locals from the board. Then eat some more BBQ of a different style.

But don't stay in the hotel with the TV.

Little known KC fact: We have one of THE best chocolate makers in the country (http://www.elbowchocolates.com/). The shop is also near your hotel. They're expensive. But if you fall for one of those lovely rods at KK Flyfisher, a box of Elbow chocolates might smooth your arrival at home.

First off, listen to Betty, she's, as usual, on the right track.

There is some winter trout fishing in the area, but 1) it's all lakes and ponds and 2) the lakes and ponds will all be a little on the solid side if the temps stay this low. The problem with fishing in the winter around here is the lakes freeze too solid to cast through, but not solid enough to walk on most of the time
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.
