Ray you nailed it very well. I find myself fishing in western WI or southern MN on some very small streams. I sure many of us have been in the situation where the distance the fish are from you is greater than the distance you can get a back cast in. The light DH that Ray explains is perfect for this situation. I'll use a six to twelve inch "dip" to get the line speed to get the fly to the fish. Now I'm talking the fish are 25 to 30 feet away and the dead tree is only 20 feet behind me. If I move 5 to 10 feet closer to the fish they will go down. The DH puts more energy in to the line so it can carry further. Learning this will really expand your fishing opportunities.
