I am decidedly in the camp that prefers a companion. The trip to and from the river and on the river as well all seems better with someone else along. I am likely to keep my distance on the stream, but it's the time between separation that I like. It is also a strategy. Two fishermen can cover more water, try more flies and tactics, see more clues and ask more strangers what's been working. Of course, if it has been your day - do more bragging! Finally, the trip home going over the day in great detail with someone interested in your account is the best.

When I go alone, I am almost too intense and intent on my fishing. It is good to break the 'spell' with the distraction of a companion.
