Marco - even when I was a young pup with great eyesight, I found it was tough knotting on those #22-32 midges without mangling the fly (not that the trouts wouldn't eventually mangle them anyhow).

My solution was to convert a cheapo ball point pen with a short length of violin E string. The storeboughts do fine on normal size flies, but these microflies have a tiny gap that doesn't fit the wire.

It's best if the tip of the pen is metal (to reduce wear) and I always keep an eye out for the ink refills that have a metal barrel - easier to hold the E string permanently.
