Thread: Limited materials swap

    Default Limited materials swap

Now for something a little different! I'm proposing a swap that will be for flies using a specific list of materials. You can use any combination of the materials on the list below, but nothing else. Any hook you want, but only items from the list of materials below can be tied on.

    peacock herl (standard not dyed)
grizzly hackle (saddle or neck, rooster or hen)
    black thread
white chenille (ultra or regular-not pearl or ice)
    hare's mask (natural)

Open to 10 people plus the swapmeister. Standard swapping guidelines: Tie 10 flies of your choice and ship them to me with toetags, packaging, crushproof container and return shipping. I will send shipping information as soon as the swap fills. I'm going to leave this one open for a bit longer than usual so people can experiment just a bit if they need to. So due date for flies to be to me is March 31st. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all can come up with on this one. If it turns out well, I can see this swap becoming the first in a series with changing materials lists.

I would like to get in on this one if it is ok. I will figure out what I will tie not sure yet. I will call mine a Spring Fly just so it will have a name. It will be similar to a lot of flies that are out there. Thanks John

I kind of expect a lot of TBD flies at first. Unless you have a specific pattern in mind, you most likely will have to experiment a little. You are signed up.

    'Ol Blue,
If a Griffiths Gnat is not too elementary I'll sign up and submit this fly. It only uses 3 of the 5 materials listed; if you would rather have something more creative I'll bow out.
    Thanks,
    Greg Qualls

    Griffiths Gnat

Nothing is too easy or too complicated for this one. You can use as many or as few as you need to. You are in.

I'd like in on this one...what's the due date? I have a fishing trip coming up in a couple weeks that I need to tie some flies for. Tying these might have to wait until after I'm back if that's OK.

I have some ideas in mind though for this swap...but I need to try a few things at the vice before I can name the resulting fly.

I think that I am going to be tying a hares ear parachute adams variation.....

We can use different colors and kinds of hackle correct?
Can I change patterns if it doesn't look right?

I would prefer that grizzly color be used, but you can use saddle or neck, hen or rooster. And yes, you can change patterns right up to the day that you mail it. I had a certain amount of experimentation in mind when I came up with this swap.
