Assuming it is under warranty I would send it back. A rod should not do this. I had one that did. Sent it back and got a new one.

    Best of luck.

rub some candle wax on the ferules. This will help kep it together and come apart easier when done. If your rod comes apart in mid cast it can break. I learned this the hard way!

Send it back if covered under the warranty.
If not, how about a strip of duct tape around the female ferrule. Apply the tape before putting the rod together. Not great looking but should work.

Start by having the two sections at 90 degrees to one another. Then torque (twist) the two sections into alignment putting some elbow grease into it. It is helpful to wax the ferrules with some candle wax prior to mating the sections. If this does not work, send it back to the manufacturer.

I had a rod that had this problem. I solved it by sticking a couple of blades of grass in the ferrule before I connected the pieces.

    JC,
That Ferrulelube sounds like great stuff. Does it work on nickel-silver, or stainless coated brass? It sounds like it may be just the stuff I need for a couple of grass sticks.

Fair enough. I'll call and ask.
    Thanks,

Thanks for all the replies. Its a Cabelas Pt rod. Its only a few years old and has a 25 year warranty I may not have the receipt though. I was thinking about sending it back for a new rod.

That may be your best bet. Have you examined the female ferrule closely? There may be several hairline cracks in the graphite. I had this problem w/ a warrantied rod and sent it back. It required a new tip section.
