rod transfer and storage

is there a better method for transporting rods between trips and storing them without disassembling them and putting them in rod cases?

nope.

anytime you transport your rod strung up, or outside of its case, you run a high risk of damaging the rod.

i see these people traveling with their rods strung up and attached to the front of their trucks, and i can only imagine the damage being done by road debris thats being kicked up into the blank...very bad stuff, IMO.

I have a Aluminium rifle case I carry most of my rods and reel's in. I can throw things in my jeep and not worry!

The closest thing to what your talking about is the SPORTUBE MASTER-SERIES. It seems to offer all the protection you need to transport your rods assembled. It also can be configured to carry them disasembled and used as an airline case.

You say "between trips"...so are you asking how to store them both in a vehicle while traveling and then also at home?

one idea is to head on down to the local hardware store and pick up some PVC pipe, some end caps and PVC cement and let your imagination run wild.

I store all my rods in homemade PVC tubes with the exception of my Black Lab cane rod which has its own sweet little aluminum tube that came with it.

I have used the basic commercial cases for years like the one pictured below and feel they are the handiest way to transport rods and reels...in vehicles or boats,etc.

But thinking I wanted to be able to transport without breaking down the rods at all ....for those times hopping from fishing spot to fishing spot...and not wanting to pay the price of the SPORTUBE MASTER-SERIES...I made my own...

I devised this extension....the end of the commercial case is cut off and pvc connectors and screw in plugs used...it can be used either way...

This method covers the problem of exposure to the elements, etc.....and the red looped bunge cord allows you to secure to a roof rack.

Now having done all that I really don't think it's worth the effort....just use the basic case and be content breaking down the rod and leaving the reel, line, and fly intact...you are really not disassembling them.

If you are asking how to store the rods and reels unbroken at home I do have a way of doing that which is really handy and uses normally unused space.
