    Default Rod wt/ line wt

I posted several weeks ago about a Abercrombie and fitch rod, the safari pack rod, that a friend gave me. Several people from this board helped me find out more about it.

The catalog says: Safari fly rod. Extends to 7', weighs only 4.5 ozs. For lake or stream. #20-103 $27.50'

It does not say what wt line to put on it and I am not knowledgable enough to know. I did string it with a 6wt line I have and it actually cast pretty good. Of course this comes from a guy who has only cast with an 8wt. lol.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are wondering what weight fly line to use - you have answered your own question. If it casts for you with the 6 wt line then use it. If a friend has a 7 wt line or a 5 wt line borrow the other weight lines. Go to a grassy area and try casting with those lines. The fish do not care what weight line that you use. You are the one who needs to be satisifed with the rods casting ability when it is being "waved" (cast)by you. Often times we get so hung up on the "right" way for anything that we lose sight of the fact that what feels good or works well for me may not be what works for you. This is often due to our own casting stroke, speed, timing and numerous other factors.
