Thread: Orvis modified loop knot?

    Default Orvis modified loop knot?

I just purchased the Orvis dropper fly box that allows you to pretie dropper flies at home. In the product description it refers to the Orvis modified loop knot to tie on to the dropper line so you can simply add the dropper fly on the water. It sounds like a simple noose.

Does anyone know this Orvis modified loop knot and how to tie it or can refer me to a place to see instructions on this or any fishing/noose knot?

    Thanks for your help.

Is this knot the same as the Orvis Tippet Knot? If so there was an article in American Angler magazine about the tippet knot. You may want to try [url=http://www.americanangler.com:29553]www.americanangler.com[/url:29553] and do a search there.

I think it is like a Duncan loop (Uni knot) that is not cinched down. You can loop it over the hook bend of your fly and thus attach your dropper.

Yes. The idea is to loop it over the hook bend and then cinch it down. The fly box allow you to hook the loop to the box so you can cinch it down in the field. Do you know where I can find info on the Duncan loop (uni knot).
    Thanks!

Lots of places. You could go to google and do a search on "Duncan Loop" and have your pick. Here's one source
