    Default Knots, Shock Tippets, Help

Heading to gulf coast of FL beginning of June between Clearwater and St.Pete. Going to try flyfishing saltwater for the first time. Any tips onhow to tie on the fly, use a shock tippet, knots I need, good flies (I've heard clouser types) and other helpful hints for fishing along shore? Thanks.

I use a 25 lbs tippet, as Snook have very sharp gill plates and most other salty fish have teeth. Here is the knot I use most on my flies. It is simple and have never had it fail. [url=http://www.killroys.com/knots/duncan.htm:73007]http://www.killroys.com/knots/duncan.htm[/url:73007]

Clousers, decievers, bendbacks are good, also surf candy and others. I live close bby so drop me an e-mail when you are coming and I may be able to point you to some good spots. ( or maybe take you to some.)

You still have some time. The best manual on saltwater terminal tackel is Bill Nash?s.
It is only 35 pages long and costs $18, but if you are serious about saltwater fly fishing, it will become your bible.

As purebs posted, the Uni-knot is good for a substitute blood knot to connect the leader to the shock tippet too, or use a double surgeons loop to double surgeons loop connection. The uni-knot is easy to tie on a fly with 18" of 25 lb. shock for the toothy feeders. For more bites in very clear water drop down to 18" of 20 lb shock tippet; just be prepared to lose a few more flies!
