Thread: To many reels, I am lost, Help !

Ok Korban,I may be wrong, I'd just read people reporting problem about unsealing the drag and having water dropping into the reel during spool replacement...
But they may be isolated and rare problem.

I think lamson and Galvan reels have some of the best smooth drag out there.. so I may be wrong to have rule out the velocity.
But at one point I have to choose so I think Galvans can't be bad, it doesn't mean velocity are not good...

Just checked the Galvan website and the Torque page describes it as being "completely saltwater safe", the page for the Rush does not.

The Velocity is salt-safe and I think the possibility of getting anything in the drag is very small.

Danbo the Ross Rythym has replaced the Gunnison in their lineup. The Gunnison was/is a great reel but Large Arbor reels are taking over. The Rythym has the exact same drag as the Evolution, but costs substantially less.

All Glavan reels are completely safe.
http://www.kkflyfisher.com/reels/galvan_rush.html[/url:2c646] http://www.mrfc.com/Mrfc1Reels.asp[/url:2c646]

And on the Glavan Reel website about maintenance of the Rush:

Maintenance and Cleaning

We recommend that you that youclean your reel every time after exposure to salt or alkali enviroments. To clean your reel, first loosen the drag all the way counterclockwise to the lowest setting and remove spool from frame. Soak both in fresh warm water. After saoking rinse both spool & frame thoroughly making sure the drag area gets a little extra attention. Inspect the pawl area on the frame and the gear area on the spool for dirt, grit, or build up. If found rinse a little more aggressively. Let the spool and frame air dry before replacing the spool back onto the frame and storing.

But I could be wrong.

Arf BigCliff me again,

You caught me on that one, I am even more undecided now...

I just read that about Lamson vs Galvan:
http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=240228[/url:4e908]
For summary: both are great !

How can I choose now...

Help ! ....

I like the Galvan OB. It's my most used reel and has been abused all over the place. It still is as smooth as when I got it. I didn't respond to this thread earlier because I didn't really like any of your origonal choices, but it's good to see you've expanded your options to include Galvan.

just to comment on the orvis subject before. i visited an orvis store and the guy there told me to only go with the mach la or the pro guide mid arbor for sw fishing, just because there are the only two with a drag system capable of handling big sw fish.

If you are in doubt, buy them all! Chose one to use and collect the others. Remember: Reels are like Rods. If you know how many you own you don't have enough!!

This advice is given with tongue firmly in cheek!

My vote definitely goes with the Tibor. My backcountry has treated me well and I haven't had a single problem. They maybe a little more expensive but their track record speaks for itself. One of my fishing partners uses the ross evolution and loves that reel, while another buddy uses the galvan and loves that as well.....So, I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them. Just to add another choice...Look at the waterworks force reels. I have 5 of these from a 2x up to 3.5 for my speys and I love these the best. Just wanted to light your fire a little more...LOL
