Default Easter egg and kook-aid dying

We were REALLY late on boiling and dying easter eggs, however my son doesn't seem to mind. It's the Salvador Dali in him, I guess. Since we'll have those bright colors, why not use them for our flies after the eggs?

When using easter dye, or Kool aid for that matter, is there a way to set the dye when using feathers or deer tail hair (brother gave me the tail of the stupid deer that walked in front of him on Day One of the season)?

I know to wash the feathers before dying, but shall I do the same with hair? Is there a technique after dying?

The Easter Egg dye should be color fast. It takes about a week to color on Pheasant tail feathers.

    But the cors work well.

You asked about Kool-Aid and setting the dyes...

It has been often said to use vinegar to set after using Kool-Aid but it also has been pointed out that Kool-Aid has citric acid in it so the vinegar is not necessary...I don't bother with the vinegar...and have had no problem.

Thanks for the great hints. I will have to try one or both tomorrow...depending how fast gardening goes. (Need to get those herbs and strawberries in that I should have planted today instead of buying thread and a new stacker.)

Waiting for the river to lower....
