Default Here's the problem with this fly

I never want to tie another like it.

It's name is Big Blue and was tied with macaw, peacock, jungle cock, and dyed guinea hen. The rear body was started on a needle and consists of razor foam wrapped over antron. The thorax and head are black chenille. The antennae and the proboscis are made of black waxed tying thread with a dot of black nail polish on the tips of the antennae.

By the time I got those in, I was too worn out to add legs or eyes, as I had with my previous butterflies.

    I hope you like it.

There must be a recipe and photo sequence somewhere, but once I tied a few small ones, I got cocky and started making up methods as I went along. Let's just say the wheel has already been invented and I went around and around anyway!

Seriously, I saw a spent caddis imitation made with partridge feathers in a tying magazine some time ago. You'd have a market for useful, well tied flies like that.

The above did well at an auction to benefit a conservation organization. I'll bet it never sees the sun again!

    Thanks guys.

Do you ever get that way with tying? That "I'll never do this again" feeling?

    Sarah,

    Yes. However, I do.

By the way, great job. That fly has peaked my interest and now I may even start searching for butterflies to emulate at the tying bench.

    Sarah,
Very nice!! Now, set this one on a display stand and smile, knowingly , every time you walk by it.

And to think some bass would just smash that! If you could cast her. *Grins*

    Cool fly.

    Sarah,

Do you know who ended up with it? I was just curious if it was someone local. I'll let you know how the one you donated to HTU does at our banquet. Saturday!

    Hi Sarah,

A thing of beauty. I wish I had the ability. It looks my ability is in telling someone else how beautiful their fly is.
