Thread: holding a fly tip

    Default holding a fly tip

    Here's a little tip on how to get a fly with wet glue on it.... or a very small one that's hard to grip.... out of the vice and still control it.

    I find it handy...maybe someone else will.

    I use golfer's pencils with erasers...push the barb into the eraser and release from the vise.

    I happen to use this little pencil holder picked up at a thrift store...many things could be used.

    Hope the picture shows it adequately.

    So did you steal the pencils from the golf course before or after you snuck onto the course to fish their ponds for feisty bluegill?

    Neat idea!

    duckster,

    "Here's a little tip on how to get a fly with wet glue on it"
    That's funny. I didn't know they come that way(-;

    Seriously, How do you get to the barb without grabbing the fly? Besides, what the heck is a "Golfer's pencil" and why would it have an eraser? If there was such a thing as a 'fly fisher's pencil' I would understand the need for erasers. It's a given that fly fishers achievements (the fish) grow so we'd have to erase a lot. But aren't golfers supposed to be exact?

    Very cool. I normally just grab the fly, trying to avoid the freshly glued head area, and stick them into an old wine cork to dry. I like your version better...

    Thanks for the tip and the picture.
